The world of social media is quite the beast, so don’t feel discouraged about not knowing where to start! Here are a few simple steps to getting things going:
1. There are absolutely things a small business owner can do! Start with knowing your brand and staying true to yourself. When you post content always make sure it is about your brand and the message you are trying to portray. If you are selling an item, keep the item in mind – but more so keep in mind how you are trying to positively help others with your item.
2. Be consistent. The worst thing you can do is go into a social media plan thinking you HAVE to post daily if you don’t have content for that. It is better to be consistent than to be compliant. If you can only take one photo a week and then find one article that relates back to your brad a week only post twice a week! Don’t post things that are random just to say you posted. This won’t help your brand and it won’t help you get sales.
3. Don’t be afraid to change things up. Something important to know about social media is that is can be a tool for sales, but only if you spend the time making it one. Posting the same thing over and over again and never seeing a sale will not eventually lead to a sale. If you post a photo with a red background and not a lot of text in your caption and don’t see a sale, then switch it up and post a blue photo with a lot of scripting. Eventually something will stick, and learning those patterns is important to helping social media work for you.
4. Lastly, when it comes to tapping into the network of each social platform, keep in mind they are all a little different, but they all have one major thing in common. They take time. I would suggest taking 15 to 30 minuets a day linking, following, commenting on other accounts and individuals pages on each platform in order to help with your organic interaction. Over time it will build and eventually snowball.I hope this helps some!
