What You Need to Know Before Launching a Box Truck Business

When I started my box truck business, I thought I had everything mapped out. I planned to use my own funds, avoiding loans, and I intended to kick things off by renting a box truck. However, I quickly discovered that the resources I relied on were outdated.

The Reality of Starting Out: Unexpected Challenges

In my first month, I struggled to book a load because brokers were hesitant to work with a new MC (Motor Carrier Authority). Despite watching numerous videos about others successfully making money in this space, I couldn’t understand why I faced so many obstacles. Every avenue I explored seemed to lead to a roadblock, and on top of that, I still had to pay for my truck rental.

Do Your Research and Plan Ahead

My best advice for anyone looking to enter this industry is to DO YOUR RESEARCH! Seek out up-to-date information, and have a solid plan in place. Be ready to pivot if your initial strategy doesn’t pan out. Renting a truck can be ideal because it allows you to avoid dealing with breakdowns, but keep in mind that you’ll need to pay for the rental weekly. If you don’t have loads or contracts lined up, you’ll find yourself spending money without any income to offset it.

Stay Adaptable and Informed

Now, a year into this journey, we’ve secured a contract for delivering appliances, and things have definitely gotten easier. However, this industry has its own set of challenges and rules that you need to be acutely aware of before diving in. It’s essential to remain adaptable and informed as you navigate this complex landscape.
