The Best Cake in the World

Business Description

The Best Cake in the World was a business that originally started by Marlik in 2022. As a child, Marlik had seen his family fighting over his grandmother’s pound cake recipe and later watched his mother perfect the recipe.  It was then he knew, this cake was meant to be shared with the world. Starting by himself and a single milk crate, Marlik created Cake in a Crate and walked around with slices of pound cake he made himself from his grandmother’s now 100-year-old recipe.

With his original flavors or caramel and lemon, Marlik quickly saw the joy and comradery that cake brought everyone, kids, grandmoms and adults so much joy. Everyone loves cake and it has quickly become a vehicle to share of joy and human connection.

In the summer of 2023, Marlik was able to expand the business, starting a marketing campaign called “The Best Cake in the World” using a street team and guerilla type marketing, “The Cake People” were and are a known group in the Chicago area for being outside, interacting with people and selling cake. Through this summer, the business has transformed in to what we call a human connection company.  Expanding on the vehicle of joy, the team realized that yes they were spreading the word about literally the best cake in the world, but they were really disrupting most people mundane or uneventful commute with a flash mob of joy. It is not every day you walk down the street and see 5 adults in matching t-shirts doing coordinated dances with signs that say “The Best Cake in the World.”  That spontaneous and joyful interaction is the essence of this company. We are disrupting the mundaneness of life by spreading joy in cake form and we want to spread that message to the world.
