Techtivist is an impact-driven tech company dedicated to empowering public defenders and other legal advocates with innovative software solutions that enhance police accountability and support systemic change in the criminal legal system. Founded by Julie Ciccolini, Techtivist’s vision originated from her extensive work in police accountability at The Legal Aid Society and the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers (NACDL), where she spearheaded efforts to build a comprehensive database of police misconduct records. This work, deeply inspired by pivotal events such as the tragic deaths of Eric Garner and George Floyd, aims to prevent individuals with a history of misconduct from violating civil rights with impunity and transferring between departments unnoticed. Techtivist’s mission centers on developing cutting-edge tools to address this gap, ultimately supporting public defenders in their fight for justice and transparency.
