Business Description

Sugar Bush Bakery is a woman created wholesale bakery in Austin, Texas. Created by a daughter who brought her parents from South Africa and then they ran the business successfully for 13 years. In 2019 Charlotte and Andre hired me to take Charlotte’s duties because she had cancer and needed treatment. What once was a 5 person operation  reduced to just me during the pandemic. I kept business going with cookie sales to grocery stores solely. In the summer of 2020 Charlotte passed away, she didnt recover  from the chemotherapy treatment.  Andre and their daughter, Inge, offered me the business. I accepted and changed the name, at their request, to Sugar Bush Bakery. This is Charlotte’s  legacy amd she used to bake pastries from their home country under the name Sugar Bush Bakery.  The same month, the commissary kitchen owner changed and a new partnership/ friendship was created. The new owner  and I strive and thrive to create a “family” shared kitchen that thrives on love and God’s daily presence. It’s a divine place with remarkable people creating soul nourishing foods. It feels like a piece of heaven on Earth.  Sugar Bush operates as a wholesale bakery selling cookies to local grocery stores and coffee shops. Additionally I partner in operations with a local coffeehouse, Genuine Joe’s, that has been threatened with demolition to build luxury condominiums. It’s an aggressive change happening all over the city and we are fighting to keep alive these small entrepreneur businesses that offer sanctuaries and warmth.
