Business Description

We are a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization that collects new and gently-used Halloween costumes that is then distributed to struggling families in NH at no cost to them. Everyone knows that the cost of things continue to go up and costumes are often a luxury type item that people can’t always afford. S.C.A.R.E. takes those costumes that kids are not likely to fit into next year anyway and keep them from ending in a pile in the closet or worse…in the landfill. Then we partner with local community agencies who are helping families that just need a little something to get by. We coordinate a day in October to bring over a bunch of our costumes and we give them away to families who stop in. If we have accessories, those are free as well.

Our program not only helps families with this financial burden but it has added benefits as well. Parents don’t feel guilty about not taking kids around for candy because now there are costumes. And we encourage adults to take one as well so they can dress up with their kids. The kids who got costumes are no longer the odd one out during the class party either. This sense of inclusion increases self-worth and perceived self-value all because they feel like they are part of the group.

So we are a group of volunteers helping to ease the burden for adults in our communities, improve self-esteem of kids/families who participate in our program, and we can’t forget the importance of encouraging use of one’s imagination!
