Founder's Story
After more than three decades of distinguished service with the Los Angeles Metropolitan Transportation Authority, Annette Lesure retired — and immediately ran toward purpose.
Born and raised in Los Angeles, Annette looked around her community and saw what the headlines rarely capture: children without school supplies, families without clothing, and adults rebuilding their lives without a single hand extended in their direction.
"Every mind matters. Every life counts. And I was not done showing up for the people of this city."
From that conviction, Minds Matter Resource Group was born. Today, as Director of Operations, Annette leads a fully registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit serving 50 to 150 individuals every month across Greater Los Angeles — through clothing distributions, school supply drives, free lunch programs, and direct community outreach.
She did not just build a nonprofit. She built a movement.

Minds Matter Resource Group is a Los Angeles-based 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to breaking down barriers — one act of service at a time — so that every person has the resources they need to thrive. Founded and led by Director of Operations Annette Lesure, a retired veteran of the Los Angeles Metropolitan Transportation Authority, Minds Matter Resource Group was born from a deep conviction that every mind matters and every life counts. We serve disadvantaged youth, families, and adults across the Greater Los Angeles area by providing essential resources, community support, and direct outreach programs that create real pathways to stability, dignity, and lasting empowerment.
Our core programs include the Back to School Drive and Backpack Giveaway, which distributes fully stocked backpacks and school supplies to children in need each August; The Midday Munch, a free lunch program providing hot meals to youth ages 5 to 15 at no cost and with no registration required; Threads of Hope, a free essential clothing giveaway providing clothing, hygiene supplies, socks, and undergarments to families and individuals across Greater Los Angeles; and ongoing clothing and hygiene distributions powered by our Community Partner membership with Project Ropa’s Community Clothing and Hygiene Bank. Every program we operate is designed to meet people where they are, restore their dignity, and connect them to the resources they need to move forward.
Minds Matter Resource Group is more than a nonprofit — we are a community. We believe that when we invest in people facing the greatest challenges, we do not simply change individual lives. We change the trajectory of entire families and neighborhoods. Our team of four to six dedicated staff members, supported by a growing network of community volunteers and partners, serves between 50 and 150 individuals every month and is committed to growing that impact every single year.
We are also the sister organization of Minds Matter Wellness & Living, LLC, an independent mental health supportive care company serving adults across the Greater Los Angeles area — creating a comprehensive ecosystem of care that addresses both the immediate resource needs and the long-term wellness needs of the people we serve.
