Founder's Story
My journey into this work started long before I ever became a therapist, back in the 8th grade, if I'm being honest. I was the friend people came to when things got hard, the one who somehow always ended up in deep conversations with, helping friends work through family problems, drama, and breakups. I didn't have a name for it then, but I know now that was the beginning of my passion for helping others heal. That passion carried me through my education and into a career as a LMFT.
Harper's Haven was founded in 2022, in loving memory of my dad, Jackie Harper. Losing him was one of the hardest things I've ever had to go through, and in the middle of that grief, I made a decision: I wanted to build something that honored his memory by helping others find their way through their own pain. Harper's Haven is a reminder that even through loss, healing is possible, and that our hardest seasons don't have to be the end of the story, but can become the foundation for something meaningful.
Business Description
Harper’s Haven Marriage, Family, & Child Counseling Corp is a Black woman owned group practice serving clients throughout Los Angeles County and across California via telehealth. Our team of Licensed Marriage and Family Therapists (LMFTs) and Associate Marriage and Family Therapists (AMFTs) offers a warm, culturally responsive space for individuals, couples, and families navigating life’s hardest seasons. We specialize in couples therapy, drawing on the Gottman Method to help partners rebuild trust, improve communication, and reconnect with one another, whether you’re working through a rough patch or rebuilding after a breach of trust. We’re also proud to offer both bilingual therapy in Spanish and English and English speaking support, so language is never a barrier to getting the care you deserve.
Our clinicians bring deep experience in women of color therapy, offering a space where cultural identity, generational patterns, and lived experience are seen and honored rather than overlooked. We provide specialized support for adult women struggling with anxiety, helping clients quiet the overthinking, people pleasing, and burnout that so often go unaddressed. We also offer trauma informed therapy for domestic violence victims, supporting survivors as they process what happened and rebuild a sense of safety and trust, and therapy for postpartum women, helping new moms navigate the emotional, physical, and identity shifts that come with early motherhood. Our therapists meet each client where they are, because healing isn’t one size fits all, and neither is our approach.
In addition to individual and couples therapy, Harper’s Haven offers a range of support groups designed to help clients heal alongside others who understand what they’re going through. Our Postpartum Connection Group creates a space for new mothers to process the overwhelm, isolation, and identity shifts of early motherhood alongside other women navigating the same transition. Our support group for domestic violence victims offers survivors a confidential, trauma informed space to process their experiences, rebuild, and connect with others who truly understand without judgment. And for clients living with invisible disabilities, our support group offers a place to be seen and understood by others who know the daily reality of managing conditions that aren’t always visible to the outside world, from chronic illness to mental health conditions. Across all of our groups, clients find not just support, but community, a reminder that they don’t have to carry these experiences alone.
