Business Description

Beulah’s Legacy: Empowerment for Every Stage is a non-profit organization dedicated to providing essential resources and services to individuals and families across all stages of life. Established to honor Beulah Kimble-Hall, a single mother of eight, the organization established by her children, focuses on helping families when and where they need it most. Funds raised directly benefits initiatives to help youth, families thus helping communities grow. Our mother Beulah, affectionately known throughout the community in which we grew up as “Mama Beulah, was a beacon of compassion and support in her small community in Louisiana (Opelousas). She opened her home or identified shelters for those in need, offering temporary shelter, meals, sometimes clothing and identifying crucial assistance in referring those in need to healthcare, housing resources, meals and rental assistance. Her life was a testament to the power of community spirit and selflessness. That is what we saw as kids and that is what we intend to give back. We currently support food distribution efforts in the city of Houston, providing food for well over 200 families weekly by distributing “redistributed food items” from Chick-Fil-A, Cheddar’s, Auntie Annie’s Pretzels, Whole Foods Market and McDonald’s. And even though we’re a relatively new nonprofit, our experiences are a lot older and rooted in the lived experiences of our family, the significant impact our mother had on her community, and our volunteerism and philanthropy. Of the eight siblings, one brother, a military veteran of the U.S. Navy and the eldest of us all, passed away; five of us have now retired and can dedicate 100 percent of our time to the nonprofit. Two remain fully employ with plans to join us in two years. However, they do work parttime with us in the organization. Another example of what we do to help strengthen the community and bring hope to everyone in need is – not long ago a young lady reached out, totally embarrassed to ask about the food we distribute. She had been laid off for two months but had recently landed a parttime job. Since it would be two weeks before she would receive her first paycheck, she was caught between deciding to spend what monies she had left on gas for her car and food. She was referred to us and we were able to provide enough nutritious foods and snacks for the two kids, to get her through until her payday. Sometimes, it’s just the small request for help that can be the difference between someone surviving and thriving.
