Founder's Story
Business Description
Bartleby’s Homemade Ice Cream was founded in 2024 by Rachel Kamins and Jeff Osborn, both transplants to Chicago who love ice cream and believe our adopted city needs more of it. We teamed up to create a funky, friendly, community-centered space where we serve great ice cream and creative frozen treats. Our rentable party room is the perfect place to pair our offerings with your celebrations, workshops, meetings, and other gatherings!
The scoop shop evolved from Bartleby’s Ice Cream Cakes, a company founded by Rachel in 2019 that sold handmade, gourmet ice cream cakes through its website. With the opening of our beautiful brick-and-mortar, we’re excited to offer classic hand-dipped cones, sundaes, and shakes, while continuing to make ice cream cakes for all your special occasions (because ice cream cake IS the best cake).
We’re proudly committed to sustainable production and hospitality practices, including sourcing local, organic, and sustainably produced ingredients and using compostable or recyclable packaging materials wherever possible. Our shop furniture and equipment include lots of previously owned pieces given new life with a little polish and paint. And if you dine in at the shop you can enjoy your treat in a piece of vintage glassware, a fun way to reuse materials that turned into an unstoppable collecting hobby!
