Founder's Story

At 68 years old, people sometimes ask me why I’m still building something new. The answer is simple. I still believe in children. I still believe in families.

For more than twenty years, I have worked as a counselor, educator, and child development specialist, helping children and families one family at a time. Along the way, I came to understand just how much the experiences families share together shape the adults children eventually become.

Ahoy Kitty! Adventures grew from that lifelong work and an unexpected adventure with Aurora, my rescue cat. Aurora became my unlikely first mate as we sailed down the East Coast to Key West. Along the way, we explored historic communities, marine habitats, museums, wildlife organizations, and coastal landmarks. I began seeing each destination through a child’s eyes. Everywhere we went held a story, something to learn, and another reason to become curious about the world.

Ahoy Kitty! Adventures is a children’s educational-media brand inspired by the real-life adventures of Aurora, a rescue cat who became an unlikely sailor while traveling down the U.S. East Coast. The series currently includes three independently published children’s books that introduce young readers to real places, history, geography, marine life, wildlife, conservation, local communities, and problem-solving in ways children can understand and enjoy. The stories are designed to do more than entertain. They encourage children to become curious about the world around them and help families turn reading into real-world exploration and shared experiences.

At the heart of Ahoy Kitty! Adventures is a simple idea: a child does not have to sail to Key West to have an adventure. An adventure might be visiting a local museum, exploring a nature trail, learning about wildlife, discovering the history of a nearby community, or planning a family trip together. Ahoy Kitty! gives parents, grandparents, caregivers, and educators a starting point for those experiences while helping children see that learning is not limited to a classroom or screen. Shared adventures can build curiosity, create family traditions, strengthen relationships, and become part of what children carry with them into adulthood.

Ahoy Kitty! Adventures also has a natural connection to museums, aquariums, science centers, wildlife organizations, historic attractions, libraries, bookstores, and other family destinations. Because the stories feature real places and experiences, a child can visit a destination and take home a story that extends the experience beyond the visit. The books have already been purchased by museums, a science institution, independent bookstores, and specialty retailers, providing early validation for this educational and destination-based retail model.

The larger vision is to grow Ahoy Kitty! Adventures beyond the existing book series into a trusted children’s educational brand that includes coloring and activity books, videos, music and short-form educational media, family exploration resources, classroom and educator materials, multilingual content, and character products based on Aurora and the other animals children meet throughout the series. Across every format, the purpose remains the same: inspire children to stay curious, care about the world around them, and encourage families to create adventures of their own.
